Sterile Dextrose 50% nonpyrogenic, highly hypertonic solution of dextrose in water for intravenous injection — indicated for the treatment of insulin-induced hypoglycaemia (hyperinsulinemia or insulin shock) to rapidly restore blood glucose levels.
Key Features:
500mg of dextrose per ml — the most concentrated standard dextrose solution available, delivering 3.4 kcal per gram; osmolarity of 2,530 mOsmol/L — highly hypertonic.
Sterile, nonpyrogenic — contains no bacteriostatic or antimicrobial agent; single-dose use; intended only for intravenous administration.
Rapid emergency action — recommended dose is 10–25 grams (20–50ml) administered as a single IV injection; repeated doses may be administered as clinically appropriate.
Pre-filled syringe or vial format — available as a ready-to-use pre-filled syringe for fast, safe administration in emergency and resuscitation settings without the need for preparation.
Parenteral nutrition base — when mixed with amino acids or other compatible IV fluids, indicated as a source of calories for patients requiring parenteral nutrition when oral or enteral nutrition is not possible.
Central or large peripheral vein administration — must be administered into a large central vein or large arm vein to minimise risk of venous irritation, thrombosis, or tissue damage from extravasation
